A king of Angkor once fell in love with the daughter of a fisherman, the beautiful Yeah Pean. When the king left her after she got pregnant, he gave her a ring. The child she was to bear him should be brought to Angkor with the ring as identification, the king ordered. Dutifully, Yeah Pean sent her son Phrom to Angkor where he received a warm welcome and was given the best education. Later Phrom was sent back to the province as to become governor. He cared well for the province. He built a temple like the one he had seen in Angkor and named it after it « Ta Phrom ». Nearby he erected the small Yea Pean temple to honour his mother.
